Who we are

Here at This Place Arts we write and create plays that are site-specific. Our work is immersive and carries a deep respect for the world of the storytelling. We seek to engage with all ages and are especially mindful of overlooked older voices. Our most recent production, 'Swimming Pool Diaries' was performed to a packed audience and commissioned especially for the Reflections Festival at Fire & Water in Sowerby Bridge. Our next production, 'Anne Lister Teas' (commissioned by Halifax Minster) celebrates the work of the unsung heroes who work behind the scenes. Here we meet the silent army of women who cater for the culinary and emotional needs of the visitors to the Minster. They are volunteers who expect little praise or thanks and seldom receive any. They are providers and guardians of the proverbial bunfight, but also highly competent, intelligent women with diverse life experiences. Here we start to recognise their value and contribution, not only to Minster life, but as symbols of the millions of women who generously provide hospitality to ensure community events happen.
